Bloomington, Ill. – The Bloomington Edge, Illinois’ only professional indoor football team, has announced the contract extension of General Manager Charles Welde. The extension is for two years.

Mr. Welde assumed operational control of the Edge organization on February 1st, 2017, just weeks before the opening of the 2017 season. With his inaugural season behind him, he reached an agreement with Edge CEO, Dr. Omar Khokhar, to continue leading the organization moving forward.

“Coming to an agreement was very easy as the Khokhars and I have extremely similar philosophies on how to run a professional sports organization,” remarked Mr Welde about his contract extension. “From the top down, this organization believes in family and community first which is the same mentality I’ve used throughout my career.”

“Charles is exactly what we are looking for in a G.M,” commented Dr. Khokhar. “He proved himself in his first season with us, and we are excited to have him managing the organization moving forward.”

Mr. Welde has been working in sports since he finished his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from the University of Oklahoma. He has a very eclectic work history which includes on the field coaching at the college level, experience as a college professor, experience as a program coordinator for a high school athletics department, and extensive community service involvement.

“The way my previous 17 years of working in sports has folded into this position has been remarkable,” Mr Welde commented. “I have been able to draw on those experiences to make organizational decisions for the Edge that have improved our organization.”

This offseason the Edge is focused on growing their season ticket base, creating partnerships with local businesses, and strengthening their commitment to the Bloomington-Normal community.

“In the coming weeks, you can expect to read about strategic partnerships between the Edge and other community organizations as we look to create a positive synergy in the Bloomington-Normal area.”

The 2018 schedule will be released at a later date. For ticket information please call (484) 840-3343 or visit www.bloomingtonedge.net.
