Albuquerque, N.M. – History has been made for the Duke City Gladiators (7-5) organization as they clinched their first ever playoff berth in last Saturday’s win. The Gladiators defeated the Dodge City Law (7-5) 43-22 and solidified their 4th seed spot in the Champions Indoor Football League post season.

“It was a great way to end the regular season, especially when no one thought we’d get into the playoffs,” said Head Coach Dominic Bramante after last Saturday’s victory.

Making the playoffs and being only the 3rd year that the organization has been in operation speaks volumes on how far the team has come in so little time. Especially with a talented team that leads the league in multiple categories.

One standout that leads the league on the defensive front is local Albuquerque product LB Jayson Serda who has a total of 107 tackles in the regular season as well as number 1 in the league in returns for touchdowns with 2, 4 fumble recoveries, and 2 fumble return touchdowns.

On the offense, the Gladiator standout is former UNM Lobo great QB Donovan Porterie who also leads the league in several categories. Porterie is 1st in the CIF in total yards with 2,784, 60 touchdowns, 249 completions, and 237.6 yards per game.

The post season picture is set for the Southern Division. The #4 seed Gladiators will face the #1 seed Amarillo Venom in Amarillo and the #3 seed Dodge City Law will face the #2 seed Texas Revolution at Texas on Saturday.

If Duke City wins, they will end up traveling to the winner of the Dodge City/Texas game the weekend of June 17th, 2017.

Duke City fans are encouraged to jump on the “Fan Bus” this Saturday to cheer on the Gladiators. The trip costs only $20 per person and includes a round trip coach bus ride to Amarillo, TX as well as a game ticket. The bus leaves Albuquerque from Tingley Coliseum at 1 PM sharp and will return immediately after the game in Amarillo. Fans can get their tickets at GladiatorTix.com.

Duke City has completed the regular season and takes on the Amarillo Venom for the 5th and final time in 2017. The Gladiators travel to the Amarillo Civic Center for the 1st round of the Champions Indoor Football playoffs this Saturday June 10th with a 6:00 pm Mountain Time kick off against the Venom.
